Project Outline

In May 2010 MD Engineering won the bid for project elements listed above for the installation of CPUK’s CHP system which comprised of a 5 Mega Watt gas turbine/ generator, and a heat recovery steam generator (HRSG) which produced 20 tone’s per hour of steam. This supply delivers all the required electricity and process steam to run the factory, where all surplus electricity sold to the national grid.

Our structural scope included the fabrication and installation of all new hot dip galvanized structural steelwork including the reinforcement of the existing pipe bridge to accommodate the new pipework systems.

The mechanical aspect of the scope included the fabrication and installation of the new pipework this included a 200mm super-heated steam line, 150mm gas line and a 80mm boiler feed pipework. These lines were run from the new CHP energy center HRSG located at the back of the CPUK facility 400m over an existing pipe bridge to the auxiliary boiler house. A new 250mm gas line was run from a new gas metering house underground for 200m to the new gas compressor where we installed a filter-bypass arrangement which fed the gas compressor (Figure 1). The boiler house housed a new reversed osmosis plant and desuperheating system which fed saturated steam to the existing steam distribution manifold. As well as this new steam supply the new steam line included a branch midway down the pipeline which ran to a new pressure reduction station (Figure: 2) this supplied steam to a new high pressure steam network within the factory.

Conclusion

This project was successfully completed in January 2011; all work was carried out to relevant specifications and codes of practice all welds were subject to 20% Gamma and MPI. All project deliverables were met on time with 0 injuries.
